PUPPY DIARY

Week Nine

10th December 2008

UPDATES ON THE PUPPIES WHICH HAVE LEFT:

All the puppies have settled very well with their families - all are eating, sleeping and travelling well.  Some have now had their first vaccinations.

Buddy will be leaving us on Friday, and Chester on Saturday.

In the meantime they just enjoy relaxing and having fun!

Buddy!

Yaala!

Chester!

Of course they also got into mischief - this is Yaala who had just taken an envelope out of the wastepaper bin!

Meanwhile Summer has been enjoying herself out on the fields with her friends.

Aasha is now almost six months old and enjoys running free too!

13th December 2008

Yesterday Buddy joined Ray and Ann in East Riding.

Today Chester, the last of Blake and Summer's puppies to leave, has joined Ian, Debbie and David in Essex.

Both boys have settled well with their new families and have soon made themselves at home!

The only remaining puppy is Yaala, who will be staying here with her mum Summer, and the rest of our dogs.  We have now moved the dogs back into the conservatory, which is where they rest after a long muddy walk, and also where they sleep at night.  Yaala has joined them and seems to enjoy being with her new room-mates!

And so we have come to the end of the puppy diary for our "Misters and Little Misses".

We hope you have enjoyed watching their progress as much as we have enjoyed rearing them - they really have been a pleasure to take care of - and great fun too!

Bringing home all eleven puppies after the emergency C-section was wonderful and to watch them all thrive has been amazing.  Of course it has been made easier as Summer has been such a fantastic mum and we did not have to supplement the puppies as she managed to supply them with enough milk herself.  They have also been very clean and so the workload was not as heavy as I expected, which was a bonus with Colin only home at weekends due to work commitments.

The hardest part was of course saying goodbye to each and every one of them, but all of them have superb families and we know they will all be cherished, and we look forward to hearing about their adventures with their families.

A big "THANK YOU" to the following:

Colin and our sons for all their support and understanding during the last eight weeks when my "Domestic Goddess" crown slipped from my head!

The families who have given the puppies such wonderful homes.

Larry Roberts (IDEXX) whose sound advice re. progesterone testing ensured Summer visited Blake on the optimum day.

Roy and Gill Hill (Bramhills) and Blake!

The vets and staff at The Westover Surgery, North Walsham who have been superb.

Linda Dyball (Burelind) and Kay Brownsword (Landstryder) for waiting at the vets with me while Summer was in the operating theatre.

Julie Seamons (Messano) for micro-chipping the puppies in the comfort of their own home.

Friends (too many to mention but they will know who they are!) who have given me sound advice and encouragement too.

To all those who have sent messages via the Guestbook and via e-mail about how they have enjoyed watching the puppies development.

Future updates for the puppies will now be included on their own page.

2009 will be a busy year for us as we plan to move to West Norfolk in mid-January but we hope to update the website on a regular basis in between dog walking and building work!

ADDITIONAL UPDATE

Buddy left us on 12th December to start his life with with Ann and Ray Simmons in East Riding.  Sadly a few days after Buddy's arrival Ann's mum was taken ill, and with a long-term recovery predicted the heart-breaking decision was made to return Buddy to us.

Buddy came back on 23rd December.  Summer and Yaala were very pleased to see him and he soon made himself at home again.

Due to timing and to avoid phone calls from people looking for a puppy for Christmas we made the decision to rehome him once all the festivities had finished and not to update his page until a home had been agreed.  This also gave us time to assess him - and it soon became very apparent he is a very calm and biddable puppy and that Ann and Ray had dedicated a lot of time to him.  We had two possibilities (one of which was for him to be an assistance dog) but by the time the New Year had arrived Buddy had made such an impact on us that the thought of him going too far away was unbearable and so the decision was made to rehome him locally.

Buddy and Yaala were inseparable during his stay and enjoyed playing and watching TV together.

Having two puppies the same age can be hard work and we would never sell two littermates for this reason.  Thankfully their manners remained the same with everyone in the family.

Buddy also enjoyed spending time with the other dogs - here he is sharing a bone with Aasha - another house rule here!

Summer and Buddy enjoyed a quiet morning together on the day he left - Summer was as dedicated to Yaala and Buddy on this day as she was from the day they were born.

On 13th January Buddy went to live with Andy and Val in a neighbouring village and we know they will all be very happy together.   Buddy has been enrolled at a local training class and as with the other puppies we will enjoy hearing about his progress.

On 17th February Buddy passed his Good Citizen Puppy Foundation after just five weeks training - this is especially worthy of merit as he had only been with Andy and Val for such a short period of time.
