PUPPY DIARY

Week Five

3rd November 2008

The puppies are now four weeks old.

They have been wormed again today.

They continue to "sleep and grow" and are very content.  They sleep through the night which is good news for Summer and ourselves!

They are gradually eating more Arden Grange now and taking less milk from Summer - but they still enjoy their "top up" at the bar.

We have ensured we keep Summer very well fed so that she does not become run down or too thin - any adjustments to her waistline will be dealt with when the puppies have left through exercise and diet.   She will also go to hydrotherapy to help everything return to its correct place as eleven puppies have had a detrimental effect on the milk bar!

Summer is a lovely dog to live with - she is very comical and easy to read.  While marking the puppies yesterday she nuzzled up to me as if to say "Don't forget me".  As she was Miss Pink as a puppy we re-marked her with pink too - even with eleven puppies to care for she is still the clown of the pack!

Below are two clips of the puppies taken at four weeks old:

The first shows them playing after a meal, followed by a "top up" at the milk bar.

The second shows them settling down for the night.

15th November 2008

Summer and the puppies have had a number of visits during the week.  She really enjoys showing everyone her puppies but most of all enjoys the extra cuddles and being told how clever she has been!  She makes a bee-line for male visitors as she is a "Daddy's Girl" when Colin is at home.

The puppies are continuing to develop at a rapid rate.  Meal times have now been mastered and are a very quiet time when all that can be heard is the sound of the puppies enjoying their meal.

They are also now very clean and go to the toilet in one small corner of the puppy pen either on newspaper or a 'Puppy Pad'.  We decided to do this as these are the most likely methods their new families will use.   The next stage will be to perfect this skill in a larger area, such as the lounge, when they are busy playing.  We hope to have some mild weather over the next week so we can gradually introduce them to the outside world for short periods.

"Job done - let's play!"

Summer is feeding the puppies less and less but still "tops them up" now and again - mainly morning and evening.  During the day she shares her time between the other dogs and the puppies.  She still enjoys being with her puppies and we see no reason why she cannot spend time with them when she chooses, especially as she has worked so hard over the last few weeks.

The puppies enjoy being together, but are quite happy to amuse themselves too!

Last night we took more head studies of the puppies.
