PUPPY DIARY

Week Two

1st July 2008 - One Week Old

The puppies continue to spend their time eating and sleeping.  They move around the whelping box with speed and precision despite the fact they cannot see or hear.

The puppies enjoying snuggling up together - this is Miss Yellow and Mr Green.

When it is warm they tend to spend most of the time apart.  Miss Pink and Miss Yellow are now sleeping on their sides again.

As it has been very warm here today Libby has enjoyed spending time snoozing in the shade between feeds.

Miss Pink:  2 lb 6 oz

Miss Purple: 2 lb 4 oz

Miss Yellow:  1 lb  14 oz

Mr Green: 2 lb 9 oz

3rd July 2008

Last night the puppies started to take their first steps - this is Mr Green perfecting his new skill.

Their main "past time" of the day is still sleeping.  While asleep they twitch and 'purr' gently.  They are extremely content!

Visiting the Milk Bar is what they enjoy the most!

Libby is a very loving mum - she is very efficient and enjoys multi-tasking!  This is Mr Green feeding and having a wash at the same time!

Miss Pink is next in line!

Libby still enjoys eating and drinking alongside her puppies.

The puppies are very pretty shades of gold.

This afternoon Mr Green and Miss Purple's eyes started to open.

We are very pleased with how the puppies are progressing so far. Libby is a superb mum and she and the puppies are a pleasure to care for.

The puppies have now been registered with the Kennel Club.  We decided to follow a Musical theme in line with Joeka's registered name.

Mr Green has been registered as Kendaamber Bugsy Malone.

The girls have not been assigned their name yet - but the three we have been granted are Kendaamber Evita; Kendaamber My Fair Lady and Kendaamber Sweet Charity.

Marcus has spent time with Libby and her puppies in the whelping box today.  Our children and dogs have a wonderful bond which is based on mutual trust and respect.

Libby is the tenth consecutive generation of Gatchells breeding and her temperament is outstanding - she is a true ambassador the the breed - and we are very grateful to David and Yvette for allowing Libby to join our family.  The puppies seem to have inherited their parents calm and biddable ways - they are extremely easy to handle and enjoy cuddles - even routine tasks such as weighing and nail trimming are undertaken with no fuss whatsoever.

Libby enjoys being included in activities!

While Summer had to watch from a distance.

Miss Pink:  3 lb 2 oz

Miss Purple: 3 lb 4 oz

Miss Yellow:  2 lb  9 oz

Mr Green: 3 lb 8 oz

The puppies eyes are now fully open but their eyesight still has a lot of developing to do.  Their ears are still closed so they still rely heavily on their sense of smell.

This morning we have seen then first indications that they are becoming aware of Libby and their litter mates.  They are also starting to interact with us.  Miss Pink wobbled across the whelping box to say 'hello' and wagged her tail.  Soon she was soon joined by Mr Green and Miss Yellow.  Miss Purple slept peacefully in the corner.

We have now put some toys in the whelping box for the puppies to climb over and eventually play with.  At the moment they seem to just enjoy relaxing on them!  Below is Miss Yellow.

All being well one of the girls will be staying here.  We have not got attached to any one puppy in particular - we love them all - and as the three who will be leaving us have wonderful homes to go to we can just relax and enjoy every moment!

Libby adores her puppies and is meeting all their needs - her milk supply is exactly how it should be and the puppies are thriving.

Miss Pink:  3 lb 12 oz

Miss Purple: 3 lb 11 oz

Miss Yellow:  3 lb  0 oz

Mr Green: 4 lb 1 oz

Below:  The puppies waiting patiently while their bedding is changed - there is not so much room in the box now!

Libby loves being groomed and looks very well.  She is her happy waggy self and we are very proud of her!  The other girls spend time in the living room with Libby in the evening and she enjoys relaxing with them between her maternal duties.  As yet we have not allowed Bodie to see the puppies purely because he is still a puppy himself - a very large one!
