24th April........1 week
old
William is now one week
old - how time flies! William now weighs - 2lb
14 ozs - he has doubled his birth weight as expected and we are very pleased with his progress. He moves around the
whelping box with relative ease and homes in on the milk bar with great
precision!
He continues to be a very content puppy and spends his time feeding.....
.....and sleeping - usually with Summer.....
.....although he is equally content sleeping on his own.
Today he had his
nails trimmed to prevent Summer's teats from being scratched - it did not
bother him and he was soon fast asleep
again.
Summer is providing
William with everything he needs and spends very little time away from him -
she even has 'Room
Service' in the whelping box, which she seems to enjoy!
25th April
Today William was
joined by four foster brothers whose Mum is currently nursing their five
brothers and one sister. The puppies were born on 21st April.
Before their
arrival I spoke to friends who advised me on the best way to introduce
puppies to a foster mother - thanks to their advice things went very well.
Thank you Suzi,
Margaret and Kay!
The puppies arrived
during the evening - within minutes Summer was sniffing them and within the
hour the puppies were in the whelping box and Summer was feeding and cleaning them.
William enjoyed a cuddle
while Summer was introduced to his foster brothers.
After the little ones
had been served at the milk bar William joined them.
Summer has now had her
food allowance increased as she has extra mouths to feed.
It soon became apparent
that Summer seemed very pleased with the new additions to the family.
The puppies were weighed
and have all been given coloured collars for identification.
Their owner also wanted
them to be given temporary names, which are:
Hugo (Green) - 1lb 6 ozs
Harry (Orange) - 1lb 3
ozs
Humphrey (Turquoise) -
1lb 8 ozs
Hamish (Yellow) - 1lb 10
ozs
William has also been
given a collar, which is red, although at the moment he is easy to spot!
Summer was soon taking
as much care of her foster sons as she has William, who snoozed nearby. She is an amazing
mum!
After they had all been
fed and cleaned it was time for some brotherly bonding!
H, H, H and H went back to the milk bar later.....
.....while William continued
to chill out in his usual style.
He was joined later by
Humphrey.
26th April
Today Summer has been
wonderful - she has coped with her new family amazingly well.
This morning Summer and
William enjoyed a cuddle on the camp bed.
The puppies have slept
contentedly between feeds all day, in this instance on Summer's leg, and
have gained weight.
William has learnt to
share his mum!
We have heard that Hugo, Humphrey, Harry and Hamish's mum and litter brothers and sister are also very well.
27th April
It is becoming more and
more apparent that Summer adores all the puppies. She has a good
supply of milk for her new family.
Humphrey enjoyed extra
snuggles this morning.
It seems that William
and Harry have formed a close bond and spend a lot of time together.
Harry is the smallest of
the puppies but thanks to William giving up his favourite teat Harry is now
visibly gaining weight.
William and Harry snooze
on a leaf while Hugo, Hamish and Humphrey have some lunch!
William spends a lot of
time at the bottom of the puppy pile - but does not seem to mind.
After lunch the puppies
have an afternoon snooze.
28th April
Today William's eyes
started to open.
"The H's" were visited
by their owners Malcolm and Marilyn and spent the day feeding and sleeping.
William found a
comfortable spot under the shelf with Harry and Humphrey.
29th April
This morning the puppies
have been weighed again to check on their progress.
Hugo (Green) - 1lb 13 ozs
Harry (Orange) - 1lb 12 ozs
Humphrey (Turquoise) -
1lb 14 ozs
Hamish (Yellow) - 2lb
William - 3lb 6 ozs
They waited patiently in
a basket while their vet bed was changed and to be weighed.
Today William took his
first steps.
30th April
Today "The H's" eyes
started to open and they started to take their first steps.
They soon fell asleep in
a Curver box while William was being weighed.
